Recent News at Laverstock and the Surrounding Area
We have been busy here at Laverstock during lock down getting everything ready for the return of our guests.
We have some new arrivals in Laverstock Pond, beautiful rainbow trout which are settling in nicely. It’s been amazing watching them rise in the early evening as the hatch starts. Guests are more than welcome to have a go at catching their supper. The fish are up to approximately 1 lb in weight. Our children have been having a lovely time trying to perfect the art of fly fishing and we look forward to our guests being able to enjoy the fishing too.
We do hope all is well with you and your families during this difficult time. We are all well at Laverstock but its very quiet and we are missing having all of our lovely guests to stay. We have welcomed five orphan lambs to stay – Lily, Boris, Morris, Nellie and Cripple. The children have been hand rearing these and they are all growing well. The pigs have arrived and are settling into their new home nicely.
We are looking forward to lock down being over and are busy making plans to keep our guests safe once we can re-open so you can have a wonderful stay at Laverstock.
Laverstock really is the perfect place to escape and enjoy the space of the countryside, nestled between Lewesdon and Pilsdon Hills. It’s a safe place for children to roam the farm and enjoy some fresh air.
It’s been a busy half term, but great to see all our guests having a wonderful time, even if the weather hasn’t been perfect.
Laverstock is a great location to explore the market at Bridport and have a poke around for treasure in the antique quarter. We’re in the middle of the West Dorset countryside and it’s lovely to walk up Lewesden Hill, enjoy the views followed by Sunday lunch at the pub. We’re not far from the coast to pop down and enjoy watching the waves followed by a wander along the beach from West Bay to the Hive Beach Cafe at Burton Bradstock for a pit stop.
We’re looking forward to the weather warming up and the days getting longer, and we’ve still got availability over the Easter holidays, so if you fancy a short break, why not escape to Laverstock?
We are looking forward to welcoming guests this year at Laverstock Farm and we’re really proud of our achievements over the past year. We’ve had a lovely Christmas here at Laverstock Farm, it’s been great to see guests making use of the new games room. We were excited to welcome some surprise visitors, 2 lambs born on Christmas day!
This year is the perfect time of year to enjoy strolls through the country, we’ve enjoyed lots of lovely walks straight from the farm, the best has to be the walk up Lewesdon Hill which gives spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. There are also some lovely walks around Beaminster and of course there’s the Jurassic coast. Great to see some of these featured in Dorset Magazines’s ultimate Dorset walking guide.
We’ve been enjoying some great walks here at Laverstock, look at this beautiful picture taken from the top of Lewesdon Hill, spring is most definitely in the air. Why not book a spring break away with the family and give yourself something to look forward to on the other side of January.
West Dorset is glorious all year round, but we think it looks particularly special as the leaves go golden and the magical sparkle of morning frost appears. Why not get away from the daily grind? Laverstock Farm is the perfect place to be in winter, enjoy an invigorating hike under pale winter skies, followed by a relaxed afternoon lazing in a cosy pub, beer in hand and an overflowing plate of delicious roast dinner on the table.
It’s the perfect places for families, and our newly refurbished games room should even help to tempt teenagers away from their technology with Air hockey, Table Tennis, Table Football and Pool. So, if you’ve not made a plan for Christmas yet, or you need something to look forward to in January, why not book yourself in for a weekend away?

Sheep on the beach
We are enjoying basking in the late summer sunshine at the moment and we’re not the only ones! While walking down on Cogden Beach last week we saw this amazing site, the sheep were being moved to fresh grazing along the shingle bank. This only happens twice a year, and we were lucky enough to be there, and it was such a beautiful day.
We followed our walk with a lovely ice cream from the Baboo Gelato Kiosk which is at West Bay. This ice cream isn’t just nice, it’s award winningly nice. Made just down the road in Bridport using mostly local produce including local organic milk. It tastes amazing and was a perfect ending to our sunny walk.
Why not book a last minute get away and join us? The sheep are certainly enjoying themselves!
Here at Laverstock Farm we’re not too sad that the summers over because we love Autumn too!
The shorter days and cooler evenings give Laverstock a kind of magic at this kind of year, with the trees dropping their summer canopies and nature’s harvest seems to be fit to bursting with apples and pears galore in the orchard at the moment. We love taking a wander around the countryside, hunting out blackberries and leaves to crunch through.
There’s nothing like a late summer BBQ, especially if you’re staying in one of our shepherd huts, sitting out under the stars and enjoying an after dinner marshmallow or two! It’s actually quite nice to get the jumpers out and sit by a log fire in the evening, whether that be in one of our properties or at the local pub while enjoying a glass of something nice.
Most of the families have gone back to school for the year and the beaches are quieter, but the weather is still lovely for a walk along the sea front, especially if you can nip into a cafe afterwards for a steaming cup of coffee.
We’re flexible on arrival days and are more than happy to accommodate short breaks, why not book yourself in for a treat?
