West Bay is a major gateway to the Jurassic Coast, which covers 95 miles of coast from Orcombe Rocks at Exmouth, Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset. Sometimes known as the Dinosaur Coast, tourists throughout the World visit Dorset for fossil hunting in stunning coastal scenery. The famous sandstone East Cliff at West Bay, formed from Lower Jurassic Bridport Sands exposes 180 million years of history.

Dorset Coast & Countryside
Dorset has no cities or motorways within its county borders. For the walking enthusiast the Coastal Path to the east of West Bay passes through Freshwater to Burton Bradstock, Abbotsbury and beyond. To the west the path will take you to Eype, Seatown and Charmouth. For an exhilarating walk through the Dorset open countryside with spectacular views across Lyme Bay, the coast path comes around the harbour where there are refreshment kiosks and comfort facilities available. Or head inland along the Brit Valley Way, through Bridport to the market town of Beaminster. Most of Dorset is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
